If you've lived here through a few Julys, you already know the shape of a Lake Forest summer. Concerts in Market Square. Fireworks. Farmers markets. Long light on the ravines.
This year the shape has quietly changed. Bank Lane is a food street on Thursdays. Elawa Farm has stacked so much programming into June through August that "come out to the farm" now means five different things. And the Fourth of July has stretched into a multi-day civic event tied to America's 250th. Here's what's actually different, and how to plan around it.
The most concrete change downtown is a new event called Bites on Bank. It runs alongside the long-standing Concert in the Square, and it takes over the refreshed Bank Lane streetscape from 5 to 8 p.m., with the concert following in Market Square from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Local restaurants and food shops set up sample-sized specialties you buy à la carte, so the evening turns into a walk-and-graze rather than a pick-one-restaurant decision.
